Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette || Swatches & Thoughts

 The Palette

The palette is exclusive to Sephora but you can also get them at Sephora.com or Kat Von D's new beauty website. It is $46 (3 x 0.08 oz. for the highlighting shades and 3 x 0.16 oz for the contouring shades), it is all matte, and the powder is very pigmented and very finely milled which makes it really easy to build-up and blend out. You can use ay of the three highlighting shades on their own or combine them together for a matte highlight, which makes it less intense comparing to a shimmery highlight, and you can also use them to set your concealer.

Highlighters:
-Lucid- pinkish nude
-Lyric- yellow beige
-Levitation- soft peach

Contour:
-Sombre- true taupe
-Shadowplay- soft brown
-Subconscious- deep brown

Thoughts

I really enjoy this palette I've been wearing this almost everyday to contour, the only time that I don't wear it is when I totally forget to contour. I have no complaints about this at all. It's does everything that I want for contouring, and the quality is just amazing.  I love the options that you get especially for the contouring shades you can go from just warming up the face with the lighter contour shades, or go really intense for a night look, etc. with the darkest contouring shade.

On a daily basis, I use Sombre and Shadowplay together, but when I want a more intense look I just add Subconscious near the sides off the face and not really go as far towards the center. I am in love with the MAC 135 Large Powder Brush to apply my contour, its flat and fluffy so its really easy to have a precise application and its easier to build up the product because its fluffy and less dense. The price range for the palette is okay it's around the same price as other high end contour palettes. I would recommend this to everyone except people with really dry skin. I love the slim packaging and the magnetic closure, just make sure to wrap it with cling wrap if you decide to travel with it.

Hakuhodo Brushes x Sephora BOGO @ Sephora

Hakuhodo x Sephora Brushes are Buy one get One Free! (except for the brush set). I don't know when the deal ends but these brushes are amazing! They are the softest brushes that I own. I hope they had more brushes for other things because I don't need more concealer brushes or tapered brushes, I was looking for eye brushes and contour/face brushes. I love them so much they are softer than my Sigma Brushes (still love it though!). I got two brushes I got a small Tapered brush (Kotsubu) and the Wedged Face brush (Kusabi). They are all available online and at Sephora stores.

Thoughts

I have been wearing this daily for the past three weeks and like the Anastasia Artist Palette, I really like the pigmentation and how creamy and blendable it is. The only thing I wish it had was more darker mattes for the crease color. I have been using Hot Chocolate everyday for the crease because I don't want to use the glittery black color. I do like the brush that it comes with, it doesn't irritate my eyes. It is great for the quality and it's a great everyday wear for $35 for 14 eyeshadow shades (0.025 oz each). You get a variety of mattes to glitters, light colors to dark with some colorful shades to play. All of the colors are really blendable except for Spirit Rock, it's has a powdery feel and because I don't really wear black eyeshadows, this is the least worn color for me in this palette. This is a great holiday present for someone who enjoys neutrals with some pop of color and also for beginners. This palette like her previous ones are limited edition, so get it while supplies last.

Sephora Haul/First Impression

Random Trips

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade in Chocolate, $18
I recently ran out of my Dip Brow Pomade in Auburn, so normally I would just grab another auburn but I was curious to see if I would find a better color for myself, and I did and I was between Medium Brown and Chocolate. Chocolate is warmer than Medium Brown so I got Chocolate.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Angled Brush #12, $18
I've been using the Bdellium tools angled brush and I love it because it's so precise but I was looking for something a little bit thicker to make it easier on filling in my brows. I caved in to buying the angled brush and I love it! I've been doing my brows a little differently. I don't outline the top and bottom and fill it in. Now, I draw small strokes with a light hand and make it look more full and natural. It takes a little bit of time until you get used to it but at the end it's worth it.

Sephora Collection False Lashes in Hipster $10 (L), Sephora Collection Luxe False Lash in Quill $17(R)
I've been wanting to try Sephora Collection False Lashes/ any fake lashes in general. I want fake lashes that are full with volume and not too lengthy. So kind of the look you go for when you get your lashes done at a salon. I was never really a wearer of fake lashes because they irritated my eyes and it was always challenging to put on especially after you've already done your eye makeup.
So I bought these and gave fake lashes another try. First I try them on and trim them to fit my eyes to the point where it won't poke and irritate them. The easiest eyelash glue to apply it with is with the Duo brush on eyelash glue (green box). I used to use the Duo dark eyelash glue (pink box) but it cld get really messy and you can't early control how much product goes out. I apply a generous amount especially on the ends and let it sit for a bit and get tacky. I then apply the lashes with a pair of tweezers, it really makes it easier and try not to blink while dong it. Usually the eyelashes have shorter lashes and longer lashes on the other end. The shorter lashes goes near the tear duct of the eye, but don't put it too close because it might irritate them. The longer side of the lashes goes on the outer sides of the eye.  I then apply mascara to my top and bottom lashes and curl my top lashes to blend with the fake eyelashes.

 First Trip

Agave Oil Treatment, $40
I've know about this product for a year now and I have been trying it since then. I just never took the plunge for it because it was kind of pricey. This has really made a difference to my hair since I have thick, coarse hair with thick strands as well. This product smells so good and leaves my hair silky soft and easier to style and tangle free. This oil is on the thicker side and you only need a little bit for the whole hair, concentrating it more towards the end, This is a must and a holy grail for my hair.

Alterna Haircare Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Pure Treatment Oil, $25
This product also smells nice, and it also leaves my hair silly soft and tangle free but it has a thinner consistency. I apply this more generously that my Agave Hair Oil, but I do use them together and I love them. These two products are a holy grail for me. Go to a Sephora near you and try it for yourself.

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops in G50, $44
I've been wanting to buy this for a while, but I just had to wait for our holiday discount to get most of the things that I wanted. This product is really pigmented. You only need max of 4 drops for a full coverage. This product is meant to mix with your foundation, moisturizer, BB cream, tinted moisturizer etc. for more coverage. So if you want to add this to your moisturizer, BB cream, or tinted moisturizer for a lighter coverage just add a drop or two. This product will last you a very long time, and love other products even more because it now has added coverage from this really innovative product. Definitely a must for traveling so you don't have to pack five different foundations.

Bite Beauty Whipped Cherry Lip Scrub, $18
I first tried this product early this year and I really love the consistency. It is really creamy and buttery and a really gentle exfoliant for the lips, and not abrasive comparing to the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish. I really cannot say more about this product. It's great especially before you apply any matte lip product.

Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine, $12
I bought this because I saw Jaclyn Hill was using it on one of her recent videos. I've been wearing this for about two weeks now, at first I didn't really like it but it grew on me and I've been using it all the time. It also has a nice vanilla scent to it, not to strong and it's just smells good!

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter in Red Roibos, $35
This came in a few weeks ago when we started getting our holiday stuff. It was never a part of the Josie Maran line so I'm just going to assume that this and many other scents are limited edition. Out of all of the scents from the limited line this one appealed to me the most and Apple Crisp next because it smells like Christmas but all the other scents were just not my type. In general I love the consistency of the Argan Oil Body Butter from Josie Maran, they are creamy and really moisturizing, and they are a little bit thicker consistency. I actually like it a little bit thicker because it actually stays moisturized for hours, and is perfect for the dryer months of fall and winter. I was going to by Sweet Citrus, which is part of the permanent line, but I just had to get this scent first. Sweet Citrus and Red Roibos are my top two favorite. I can't really describe Red Roibos scent but if you get a chance, take a whiff at Sephora. Sweet Citrus smells fresh and sweet and not too overpowering. My favorite thing right now over any lotion or body butter! A definite repurchase for me.

Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Thunderstruck, $21
This icy white eyeshadow is not an eyeshadow I would ever go for but when I swatched this I completely fell in love with it. This reminds me of Mary Loumanizer from The Balm but this one has kind of a duochrome effect with peachy undertones. It can also work as a highlight. i am really impressed with this whole line from Kat Von D every color is very pigmented and creamy and I cannot wait to get my hands to get more colors!

Bobbi Brown Corrector in Bisque, $25
This is my first time using a corrector for my under eye. I have to say this really does work! It cancels out the darkness on the under eye and it makes it easier for any concealer to conceal and brighten the under eye area. Bobbi Brown's corrector are mostly either Bisque or Peach. The Bobbi Brown rep that came to our store suggested to try Bisque first before Peach. I am already thinking about getting a back up of this product because I'm scared to run out of it because I can never put on a concealer without putting this first. This and the Kat Von D's banana shade in the Shade and Light Palette have been making a huge difference for me and I'm glad.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Rosewood, $28
I first found out about these just two weeks ago from the Laura Mercier rep. She told me that this was supposed to be a liquid lipstick. In that sense it is but it doesn't dry matte. I actually kind of like that because I have way too much mate liquid lipsticks and I like something that sets it apart from that. I fell in love with the color and is very wearable. This product is very pigmented and really moisturizing but just be careful about the color transferring to your shirt, etc. because it will. I am looking forward to get the fuchsia color from this line. This product took me by a surprise and I'm glad that I like it.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Chocolate, $21 (top) and Tinted Brow Gel in Brunette, $22 (bottom)
I love Anastasia's Brow Wiz, I have probably gone throughout about 5 or more of these in different colors but I finally bought the right shade for me! I like Brow Wiz when I'm running errands, etc. because they are easy to use and they look more natural. I either set them with the Anastasia's Clear Brow Gel or a tinted brow gel. I also have used their tinted brow gel but it a different color. I bought Brunette because I didn't want to make my eyebrows darker on top of my Brow Wiz or Dip Brow, maybe I would wear the same shade only if my brows were bare. I love this and it does the job and gives you a little bit more color just in case you missed a spot.

Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette, $46
By far my favorite contour palette! It doesn't have a lot of fall out, really pigmented. I only had to swipe it back and forth a couple of times for it to actually show up as a contour comparing to my Hoola bronzer from Benefit, it takes me quite a bit of time for that chiseled look. I also really love the yellow tone powder to set my under eyes and it lasted me the whole day. I will also do another blog post on this with swatches and more info, so watch out for that in the next couple of weeks!

Second Trip

I reached another year of VIB Rouge! I will be a VIB Rouge for the remaining of the year and all of next year!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Self-Made Palette, $35
I got this palette two weeks ago, and I've been wearing it everyday to test it out. I love Anastasia eyeshadows because they are pigmented and easy to blend and not really powdery or fall out. I only wish that it had more darker matte colors that I could work with but other than that I really like it. I will do a separate blog on swatches and other info.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Aria, $24
Like a lot of things, I've been wanting to try this for a very long time. I finally got my hands on it! I love it and it doesn't feel like it makes my lips dryer or chapped, it's just dry with some moisture on it. I can't wait to buy Patina, which is a shade that is more on the dusty pink side. It is really pigmented and you only need to swipe once.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Colour in Nude Rose, $28
I bought it because I really like the color but turns out it wasn't showing much on my pigmented lips so I returned it. Maybe it will work out for someone who has a lighter skin tone and less pigmented lips.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Medium-Light Neutral, $28
This is my second tube of this concealer. This is my favorite concealer out of all the ones that I have, even better than MAC Pro long wear concealer, I still love it but it's jut a little bit thick. The Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer is really pigmented and gives full coverage and does a great job highlighting mg under eye area. I love this because it's really light and doesn't fee cakey. It is already a bit pricey but it is worth every penny and you only need a little bit. I will keep buying this over and over again and I don't know what I would do if this product goes away because I don't know what to replace it with.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liqid Lipstick in Susperia, $20
I love Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, they are really pigmented and they dry fast. They are not the most drying liquid lipsticks that I've tried. this product lasted me at least 6 hours before it started to build around my lips. I just recommend exfoliation and pretty decent lip balm before applying these. I am obsessed with darker pinks, dusty roses and mauves, and purples! So of course I had to get these before they sold out again. I just bought Exorcism online and I can't wait to try it! Also want to get Bow and Arrow, Exorcism, Mother, and maybe Ayesha.

I recently bought some skincare stuff and two shades of Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks in Mother and Exorcism, and a makeup bag from Sephora. I will do part two of my Sephora Haul, just giving my credit card a little break. I will be buying stuff the end of next week so stay tuned for that!

Also I will have a new set of blog posts in the near future with my Sephora Cast Gratis Haul/Reviews/Swatches.
