Bangkok Day 2: Shopping at Siam Paragon and Platinum Mall & Dinner Cruise

"Headless Buddhas"

Day 2

Siam Paragon- (Siam Train Station)

Siam Paragon is where you will find all the high class stores like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Longchamp, Dior, Fendi, YSL, and other expensive name brands. But I also found an H&M inside, so therefore, there are some cheaper price shopping experience that can be done here. I bought a pair of Melissa flats (jelly looking) with some snake skin design. The food courts and restaurants in the lowest level of this mall is amazing!

Food Court and there's a market in the back!
Dried crepe I don't know what's inside of this but it was really good!
I also had something similar to crepe it was the same batter with banana and condensed milk inside I forgot the name but I think it was originated from Singapore. I was really hungry already so I was just looking for little snacks to try before eating a real meal. They take cash they don't have the cards like Terminal 21 food court. I had another Shu mai at Siam Paragon.
.

Some legit Thai Food finally!
I got my Thai Iced Coffee and some Tom Yum Soup (was pretty spicy for me) but it was delicious!

My aunt saw another Coco so I went ahead and bought another Matcha Milk Tea to satisfy my burning mouth, and to enjoy this delicious drink.

Platinum Mall- Siam Station (then a 15-20 min walk)

Tuk Tuk

We went on a tuk tuk to go to Platinum mall faster  (100 baht for 5 people)and cheaper than a taxi, it will probably be a 15-20 min. walk. We had to fit in this small tuk tuk so it was pretty uncomfortable for 5 adults to ride one tuk tuk. We went back to the second building which is zone 2, another 6-7 floors of shopping booths. For the day, I did most of my shopping here. Most of the booths are up to date with fashion most of the materials are chiffon it is really similar to Forever 21 style clothes. I will be doing a separate blog for all the things that I bought in Bangkok.

***If you are having troubles converting from usd to baht or any other currencies you should download an app on your phone. The one on my ipad is called My Currency Converter. This is great because it doesn't need wifi, so you can use it whenever you pleased.

**I brought my longchamp bag and only had like hand sanitizer, tissue, lotion, wipes, and maybe a small water bottle. I had a money belt underneath my top, I kept all my large bills there just in case someone tried to pick pocket or snatch my purse. I didn't have use a phone when I was in Bangkok so we basically had to set a place and a time to meet up, it's hard to get lost and it's a hassle to walk around and look for everybody.

Grand Pearl Dinner Cruise

Watsons

Coconut Ice Cream

Wat Arun

After shopping we went back to the hotel at around 5 and got ready, there was a service that picked us up from out hotel to the cruise at 5:30 p.m. I believe that the cruise was at 7 pm but they picked us up earlier because there might be traffic etc. So we were just waiting at the restaurant by the shore. Next to the restaurant there was a mall. I was bored of waiting so I just decided to look around for a bit and I found Bioderma at a Watsons and it was 1, 250 baht ($38.00 usd) it's still a little bit cheaper than Amazon so I jumped at the opportunity. After that, I found an ice cream booth and I was excited to see the hype about coconut ice cream! It was sold everywhere but I was always too busy walking around shopping so I didn't really get a chance to have a taste until this day. It was really good and it didn't taste like artificial coconut, it tasted as if it was the real coconut fruit that you drink.
Being a clumsy chick that I am, I got some ice cream on my dress and thankfully it dried off and didn't leave a stain behind.
I came back just in time for the boat, they had a nice entrance because there was a guy at the tip of the boat playing a saxophone and some jazz music. The staff members were outside the boat and was saluting at the people. They rolled out a red carpet and a couple of people were singing. Then it was finally time to get in the boat, we were so lucky because we were on the upper deck of the boat and we had a better look at the scenery. So the entertainment started with the singers and then a Thai dance was performed. We started to fall in line for food and we ate. I didn't finish my food because I feel like it was bland and lack taste. I enjoyed the scenery of Wat Arun Temple and a little view of the Grand Palace (Bangkok Day 4), there was also a bridge. After all the eating and the beautiful scenery the entertainers started singing and asked people to dance, they turned the boat in little club with some loud music. They were just playing music for the last 20 min. til the cruise was over.

HOW TO BUY A TICKET AT THE TRAIN STATION:

So for example you are coming from where Terminal 21 and Silq Station are from ( Asok Station) then you want to go to Siam Station where Siam Paragon is. You are in Asok where the yellow dot is on then look at where Siam station is. When you find where it says Siam and there is a number on the dot. Whatever the number is that is how much baht it cost to go to that destination. So in this case, from Asok to Siam station is 28 baht.

1. So you select the amount it will cost you (this case 28 baht)
2. Insert your coins ( if you don't have coins there's a booth/office to give you change)
3. Take your ticket :)
**If you are still having troubles then just ask a staff member to help you. Almost everybody in Bangkok knows how to speak basic English.

I love taking the train the most! There's no traffic/ it's quick and if you go in before, between, after rush hours then you won't find it crowded. It is nice and clean and there's a pretty good AC on the train.

Bangkok Day 1: Hotel, Airfare & Shopping At Terminal 21 and Platinum Mall, Night Market Food

So as some of you might know, I went to Bangkok early March and I was there for 5 days.
It is easy to go around town if you ask the right people, if you did some research, and because transportation is really cheap. Food is really affordable as well. I went to Bangkok mainly to go shopping and to look at beautiful temples. I was with my mom, my aunts, and my uncle we stayed at a pretty decent hotel that was affordable, and having someone to share it with makes it cheaper :)
The weather in the early morning is around 75 C but around 11 am-4 pm it can get to 95 C.

I will be breaking down my blogs into 5 Bangkok segments so it's not too boring to read.

Silq Hotel- Asok Station

Our hotel of choice is Silq Hotel it's about 3 minutes walk from Terminal 21 Shopping Mall and also the train station. My aunt booked it from the actual website but here are the pictures. http://www.expedia.com/Bangkok-Hotels-SilQ-Bangkok-Hotel.h2810283.Hotel-Information?chkin=04%2F01%2F2014&chkout=04%2F05%2F2014&rm1=a3&hwrqCacheKey=99053b4b-bf5f-4f76-a3c6-dc6678f44736HWRQ1395562949690&c=695c5b10-3df8-4ff1-ac8d-f5433752b450&

We actually had two rooms one standard room for my aunt and my uncle, it was around 2,000 baht a day which is $62 USD. I stayed in the deluxe room with my mom and my other aunt, the deluxe room was around 3,200 baht a day which is around $100 USD a day/3 persons so of course we paid for our own it was $33 USD each person a day in our deluxe room, which is awesome for the quality and the service of the hotel. There is free Wi-Fi if you are checked in the hotel.  Did I mention we all ate delicious breakfast, it was really tasty it wasn't food that would just fill you up and not satisfy you, trust me because I am a picky eater. They have a menu for your order and also a little buffet bar with fruits, desserts, soup, bread, cereal, coffee, etc. It was held near the lobby it's indoors so you don't have to worry about the weather or flies.

Deluxe Room

Breakfast

Whenever we would want to be "safe" we would ask one of the staff to get a cab for us and tell the cab driver where we want to go that way we don't have to worry about any misunderstanding because of the language barrier, less chance that we get scammed, and don't get overcharged for being a tourist.

It's 1, 300 baht ($40 usd) extra for the service. The service picked us up from the airport it was really  easy and convenient.

Notice the driver side? It's on the right side, which means the roads here are opposite as well! Just like in Europe!

**My airfare was $200 from the Philippines to Bangkok- Cebu Pacific Airlines. It was a 2-hr flight. Bangkok time is an hour behind Philippine time.

Day 1

Terminal 21 Shopping Mall- ASOK STATION

This mall is themed after an airport, each floor is themed by different cities around the world, the bathrooms each floor are also themed differently. This mall is also a bit "pricier" than other malls, but some of the items are still cheaper compared to the U.S. It has 9 floors!
Caribbean- Lower Ground, Rome- Ground, Paris-Main, Tokyo-1st, London-2nd, Istanbul-3rd, San Francisco-4th &5th, Hollywood-6th.
Food is mainly 4th and 5th floor, some in the lower ground. I recommend eating at 4th and 5th floor because most of the eateries are upstairs!
There is also a Money Changer Booth in the Main Floor, Money Changer in Bangkok is everywhere so don't stress about not having enough money to shop!

You can try on clothes here but can't bargain!

Lower ground

This was amazing this is a Matcha Milk tea with pearl (green tea)- in the LG level, they also have one outside Platinum Mall, but I'm sure they have more locations.

5th floor- Mostly Pier 21- which is basically fast food but you have to convert your money in a card to pay in front of the line. If you didn't use up all the money in your card just go back to the booth and they will return your money back. Really cheap food and good quality food, delicious as well!
This is mango with sticky rice btw! At first I didn't want to try it because I was never a fan of fruit and rice together but thankfully I didn't miss out! It was around 75 baht ($2 usd). **The sticky rice is sweet, and it actually has coconut milk drizzled on top of it.

Bathrooms-I actually didn't get to see every bathroom but here are some

I got to look around for just a little bit because we had to look for a tour for the temples etc. so we asked around and they said there might be one across the street in Time Square- shopping mall. On the 4th floor we found Satguru Travel and Tours. We actually just took the Ayutthaya Tour it was 1,480 baht ($~46 usd) each adult/child. It was a 6- hr tour (Bangkok Day 3). We also took the Grand Pearl Cruise with dinner, it was 1,500 baht ($46 usd)  per adult/child it was about an hour cruise (Bangkok Day 2). We saw Wat Arun Temple from the cruise and also some of the Grand Palace. I didn't really like the food on the tour but I enjoyed the scenery and the entertainment. I will be talking more about the tours etc. in the coming Bangkok segments.

Platinum Mall- Siam Station (then we walked for 15-20 min more)

We also went to Platinum Mall but we only got to finish the first building- Zone 1. It opened at 10 am and closed at 7 pm because of the night market outside. It has 6 -7 floors each zone/building. This is when I went crazy on shopping! Almost everything was around 100 baht-600 baht ($3-$18 usd), you can definitely bargain, but you get a better discount if you buy it on a wholesale price, which means you have to buy a certain amount of item from the same booth. When you go around you will see a lot of the items are similar, but I recommend buying it when you see it, because it will be a hassle to go back because it's crowded and I learned to remember the name of the booth. But some of the booths like Frazier has a booth on different levels and in Zone 2.

The clothes are good quality but make sure you check if it doesn't have a rip or dirt or anything that might refrain you from buying. The only thing that suck is that you can't try on the merchandise and you just kinda have to see if it's going to fit. **If you are tall like me and if your jean size is around 27 and up I would suggest to get a bigger size for bottoms because for the shorts and the bottoms that I got I was a size L or XL when I'm around 27-28 in jean size but they also sell harem loose pants most likely you won't have a problem with that because it's loose fitting and you can adjust it on the waist line. Most of the clothes here are meant for tiny, skinny, petite girls so just keep that in mind. For tops it's the same I was a medium or a large depending on the style. If it was tight i was mostly likely a large. There were times when I bought a top and it didn't fit me when I tried it on after, I just got lucky I got to exchange it, and they don't do refunds at all! Not even an exchange! I just came back the next day and I told the person that I just bought it earlier in the morning, and they didn't remember my face because it is really crowded and busy and they probably won't remember you. So i got it exchanged but I was more cautious of buying tight fitting tops. I would only buy it unless I am really sure.
Bangkok Day 1 Loot from Platinum Mall

This is the night market outside Platinum Mall

I actually got Siomai/ Shu mai (beef or pork steamed dumpling) with some crunchy things on top and some soy sauce and it was really good that I bought another one and came back for it the next day! You just have to pick the vendors that you go to to see if it is sanitary or not if they place the food and the tools properly and if there's no flies landing on the food.  I've seen some nasty things I can't imagine eating something from them. I really enjoyed the food part of the night market and it is cheap! They also sold mango with sticky rice here and it was good as well.
