Ruins of the Old City
Ayutthaya Province is the capital of Thailand. It was the trading capital of Asia and a center of civilization. It's about 3-4 hours drive from Bangkok going North.
We basically went here to see the remains and the ruins of temples and buddhas, which is one of the main historical spots in Thailand.
Our service wasn't a private tour it was 1,480 baht per person ($45). A van picked us up from our hotel by 6:30 am. The tour was around 9 hours. Lunch was included (lunch was really horrible experience for me!). We got back to our hotel around 4 pm.
1st stop: Bang Pa (Summer Palace)- Museum
This is actually the dress code for the Grand Palace/ Emerald Palace but when we were at Ayutthaya the same dress code applies. You have to wear a top with a long sleeve or a quarter sleeve, no crop tops, no spaghetti straps, no sleeveless tops, no capris, short shorts, short skirts, only maxi skirts or pants/jeans that are not cropped or distressed, shoes should cover the whole feet, no sandals or flip flops, only flats, sneakers, etc.
If you just happen to go and you weren't aware of the dress code they will charge you around 100 baht or so to give you a cover up or some disposable slip-ons that you can wear throughout your visit and when you're done just return the garments and they will reimburse your money back.
If you were wondering why I was wearing a chambray and some harem pants in this scorching hot weather, now you know why!
2nd Stop: Ruins of the Old City
We were trying to stick coins on the buddha's feet, if it sticks they said you can make a wish!..mine didn't stick :(
Reclining Buddha
Selfie!
3rd stop: Elephant Ride
Pictures with the elephant 100 baht each ($3)
Elephant Ride 400 baht each ($12)
4th: More ruins of temples and buddhas
This place was ok without the long sleeves
The Headless Buddhas
The Burmese attacked Ayutthaya and beheaded all of the buddhas, all of the heads were missing but only one head is seen, as the tree was growing the head got stuck in this tree.
Overall I enjoyed this day and got to see and experience a lot of things. The tour guide would only say a thing or two about the temples and the buddhas, so that was not really helpful if you wanted to know the history, I didn't mind it. I would recommend taking a tour to go to this place because it is really far from Bangkok, you don't want to do a road trip and get lost it will be really hard to ask for directions, they just know basic English (you might even get scammed) and read unfamiliar words along the way. For the price of the tour it's actually pretty good. You won't get lost, you have a driver and a tour guide that will guide the way, I hated the included lunch it was cheap and there were flies everywhere, the food looks dirty, and it didn't taste like anything, so I didn't really eat other than the breakfast that our hotel prepared for us which was really yummy.
I would recommend bringing breakfast and lunch altogether. Just buy food prior to going to this trip, go to malls, supermarkets, 7/11 and you'll have a much better food, and it's pretty cheap!
We went back to Platinum Mall around 5:30 pm to 7 pm (they closed early every night because of the Night Market outside!) So we went to the places that we just walked by and I got a few things!
Pretty good shopping for an hour and a half!
I think we went to Terminal 21 to eat and just look around for a little bit and we went back to our hotel.
